Who is Venus and David Photography?
Venus and David specializes in fitness portraiture. I strive to create photographs that have often been described as 'timeless' and 'more art than photography'. What you see is the culmination of years of experience and countless hours of conceptualizing. My aim is to immortalize you in a series of photos that will be a treasured keepsake of a special time in your life.
Why Venus and David?
I chose the name Venus and David because I could think of no better iconic representation of the male and female form than the Venus de Milo and the Statue of David.
Venus de Milo is an ancient Greek statue and one of the most famous works of ancient Greek sculpture. Created sometime between 130 and 100 BC, it is believed to depict Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty. It is a marble sculpture and is thought to be the work of Alexandros of Antioch. She is currently on permanent display at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
Michelangelo's masterpiece, David, is a Renaissance interpretation of a common ancient Greek theme of the standing heroic male nude. David has become one of the most recognized works of Renaissance sculpture, becoming a symbol of both strength and youthful human beauty.
How would you describe a Venus and David photograph?
Empowering, effortless and raw are a few words that have been used to describe my work. Venus and David shoots are not designed to show off every fibre of your muscle and symmetry. The strength of my images lie within the concepts and composition. My photos are more about the feeling that is conveyed about the human body in relation to its environment. I DO NOT photograph my clients in fitness figure/body building poses. It is important to realise this and to NOT have this expectation when shooting with me.
What sets you apart?
Advancements in technology have enabled the vast majority of people access to the joys of high-end digital photography. Coupled with the abundance of information/photo courses available there is no shortage of 'photographers' today. The difference between a good and a great photographer is not the camera used but rather their experience, their creativity and their own unique view of the world. You cannot teach or buy this. Many of my colleagues use exactly the same equipment, if not better, and produce vastly different looking images. That's not to say they're any better or worse than a Venus and David photograph, just different. As the client it is you who must ultimately judge for yourself and select a studio whose work resonates within you and with which you truly connect.
Who is a Venus and David photo shoot best suited to?
The short answer. Anyone. You don't need to be a conditioned athlete to experience a Venus and David photo shoot. My aim is to provide you with artistic images that convey your strength and beauty whilst maintaining your integrity. I love what I do and by no means underestimate the power of my imagery and the response they evoke.

I'm situated in Maitland in the Hunter Valley of NSW, Australia.
